Bioinformatics: An important tool in medical research

Medical research has already delivered benefits to the community, but it is probably true to say that we still understand less than 1 percent of our own biology at the molecular level. Understanding anything so complex is beyond the scope of a single researcher. For this reason, computers are becoming increasingly important in medical research and bioinformatics is one area which is already generating results.

What is Structural Bioinformatics?

The group specializes in structural bioinformatics, particularly in the field of protein conformational changes and their role in protein function, structural data mining and the effect of mutations on protein function. We aim to pursue fundamental research in structural bioinformatics and feed these results back into experimental systems through collaboration.
